1934: Indian Deed Obtained

Middletown, Conn., Mar. 7.–(UP)–Connecticut college has just obtained possession, by gift from Miss Anna Hempstead Branch, of New London, of the original deed by which, in 1683, the Mohegan Indians, through their chief Owaneco, deeded Bolleswood, now a part of Connecticut Arboretum, to Thomas Bolles. The property changed hands in 1693 for “four yards of duffle.”
