1931: Wesleyan’s Trustees to Retain Name

Middletown, Conn., April 1–(AP)–For the time being at least Wesleyan University will continue to be known by its present name.

In a report made public today, a special committee of trustees said that while there are many institutions in the country which include the name Wesleyan in their titles, a fact which has resulted in confusion, “no name with sufficient reason or appeal has been suggested to warrant recommendation of its adoption at this time.”

The committee’s report has been accepted by the board of trustees.
